Once again I was to spend my holiday on a epic bike journey across a part of South Africa... first it was the Cape Epic and now I was to test my legs against the mighty Umkomaas Valley.

My partners in crime were to be Scottie & Stu who have joined me in adventure in places like Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia and Kilimanjaro. Stu and I also peddled from Knysna to Cape Town in the inaugural Cape Epic mountain bike race. Stu and Scottie rode the Sani2C last year and raved about the scenery, singletrack and.... mud!!

Well after an hour or two into the first day we knew that on that third point - the mud - the race would not dissapoint! The previous year they had only encountered the mud on day two but this year it starting sticking to our bikes and us on day one. In places we could do nothing but pick the bilkes up and hike-a-bike out of the forests!
The mud was too thick to even push our bikes as it clogged the wheels and stopped them turning.
