Weekends : Swedish Sledding

It was time to bid farewell to our great friends Kevin and Chika (Wales, Tanzania, Lofoten, Scrambling, Le Tour) and what better way to do it than with a whirlwind adventure to Lapland to see the Nothern Lights, Ice Fish, Sauna and mush through the boreal forest behind a team of 12 dogs.
Niks and I spent Thursday night in Stokhom but unfortunately arrived too late to enjoy a great meal with Eric and Jen who were also in town for the night. We spent the next morning ambling round the old town and sampling the local preserved meats (elk, moose and reindeer anyone?) in the fantastic markets. Unfortunately Sweden was in the midst of a mini heat wave which turned most of the snow to slush and promised to make mushing a bit challenging. Once we had sample all the meats and seen all the sights, we headed to the local bottle store (the government owned and controlled Systembolaget) and stocked up on wine and schanpps to keep us warm during the cold Arora filled nights ahead...
