Sport : Tour of Wessex

It all started out as someone's bright idea as a great training ride for the Etape, but on reflection and further reading and a look at the course profile, this might turn out to be the main event!

The Tour of Wessex - which debuted (sic) this year - is a three day, fully supported stage race covering 325 miles of the Wessex countryside. All three days start and finish in the town of Sparkford and the route takes us to all compass points from there.

Route Details

Day 1 and 2 both cover 100 miles (160km) and day 3 is a massive 125 miles. (200km)

Needless to say the statistics on day three are a bit scary but once we have done this we should know the pain we are going to feel in the Etape!

Since it was an English Bak holiday on Monday 29th the traffic to the event was going to proff a bit of a nightmare so I opted to take the day off and take a leisurely drive down to my B&B. (Munden House - great place if anyone is going down there.)
After settling in and registering for the event I took a drive out to Jack's place in a mobile home. Although cosy, I was glad to have the luxury, space and privacy of the B&B... for those that have taken part in multi-day endurance events I am sure you will apprecite that after three days eating energy bars and gels that the caravan was not going to be a pleasant place to be!

Day One - 100mile

Day Two - 100mile

Day Three - 125mile

My first DNF... the thought of another 8 hours in the saddle followed by the treacherous Bank Holiday traffic convince me to sleep in, enjoy the full english breakfast and take an easy - and traffic free - drive back home.
